Oh, HTMLo!

tl;dr: This website will be a slowly-evolving project. I'm using perimenopausal brain cells to learn a language I haven't bothered to flex in over two decades. I'm old and tired. I have too many hobbies and not enough free time. Etc.
However you found your way here, howdy. I'm Efva. I learned html around 25 years ago, when my chatroom boyfriend Guru and I amicably broke up (he was in Texas, I was NC, it was doomed from the start). He'd made a website for me, but I didn't want to have to keep calling on him to update stuff, so I hopped right in and started poking and prodding and seeing what does what. When I decided to relearn this language, I figured the best way would be to do it the way I do best: hop into an already-written framework and tweak things around until I like them. This is the third template I've tried, but it's definitely my favorite (third time's the charm, lol), not just because it's got a really clean design but also because the code is really clean and easy to navigate. I think this is the one.

I decided to make this website because I hate the current incarnation of the internet. I hate large, corporate-owned, data-mining social media sites and actually feel uncomfortable when I try to use them. I miss the old days, when most of my friends (online, at least) had their own Geocities page, where we could visit each other and stay updated without feeling like every photo and word is being watched. Even if it's just this one little corner, I want to feel comfortable online again. I want to have fun again. Hopefully I'll keep up with it, maybe even find a way to stay in touch with my friends without compromising my soul. I've debated using a guestbook but even pre-2000 you ran the risk of just getting a bunch of spam ads and/or links to dick picks. I can't even imagine the horror that would find its way to a guestbook in today's internet.
